This Hotdog Can Hunt

Don’t let his comical looks fool you – the sausage shaped miniature dachshund (commonly referred as to a “wiener dog”) can be a fierce fighter. Over 100 years ago, miniature dachshunds were bred specifically to hunt badgers (dachshund means “badger dog” in German). The miniature dachshund’s tube like body is perfect for chasing badgers into their long skinny underground burrows and the dachshund is the only AKC- recognized breed that hunts both above and below ground. Although it is rarely used for hunting any more, the fearless miniature dachshund has been known to destroy unsuspecting squeak toys with its powerful jaws.
